Project Brief

The Market-Oriented Value Chains for Jobs and Growth in the ECOWAS region (MOVE) project focuses on building resilient cashew and rice value chains to contribute to the creation of jobs and income in West Africa, with ECOWAS as its main political partner. The project is mainly funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), with co-funding from the European Union and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and implemented jointly with numerous private and public partners. MOVE intervention countries include Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria.

Scope of Role

  • The Technical Advisor will be working in three output areas of the projects and is responsible for daily implementation and operational aspects around the topics of sustainability in the cashew value chain.
  • He/she will support the project through the provision of technical assistance and advice to partners/service providers and ensure the operationalization of activities within the project work with a focus on integration of

sustainability activities as well as climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.

Tasks

  • Develop and guide the implementation of sustainability standards and practices along the cashew value chain including climate resilience methods as well as adaptation and mitigating measures (CO2 management).
  • Supports advisory activities to the partner organisations on sustainability related topics
  • Responsible for the preparation, implementation and documentation of training events, workshops, forums, team meetings and other programme activities in close cooperation with other components and partners and in adherence to sustainability goals.
  • Develop, maintain contact and advises with all important stakeholders particularly with private companies applying sustainability standards
  • Collect, process and distribute relevant information, monitor communication and interaction between government institutions, private sector entities, farmer cooperatives, NGOs and society through analyses of the media, direct dialogue, participation in meetings and seminars etc.
  • Develop or adapt ready-to-use strategies and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals and procedures on sustainability standards and practices, climate adaptation and mitigating activities including climate-finance.
  • Assist with research activities and studies on sustainability indicators and climate resilience issues which benefit the value chain.

Qualification Required & Experience

  • University degree in the field agriculture, agribusiness, natural resource management, environmental management, sustainability management, rural development or related subjects
  • Prior experience in the field of sustainable and climate adapted value chains nexus is a must
  • Business fluency in English and French (orally and written) is essential.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the field of sustainability, climate change, preferably with a focus on sustainable production, certification, climate resilience and climate finance especially in agriculture and environmental resource management
  • Several years of professional experience in working with private sector advising companies and partners on sustainability preferably in developing or emerging countries in West African region and/or beyond
  • Ability to think and act strategically or quick on the uptake, with a certain affinity for data analysis/modelling and an eye for the essentials
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in knowledge management activities
  • Experience in research and analysis activities
