Job Description/Requirements
The Position
- The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) is the Chief Academic Advisor to the Vice-Chancellor and Council and has administrative jurisdiction over academic and student matters.
- As the head of the academic division of the University, the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) is responsible for the provision of leadership for Academic Deans;
- Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures and national regulations;
- Works directly with the Vice-Chancellor, Deans and Programme Directors in developing and maintaining quality teaching, research, and service programmes at the undergraduate, graduate and professional levels;
- Recommends to the Vice-Chancellor the appointment of academic personnel in teaching and research;
- Chairs a number of statutory committees as prescribed by the Statutes.
Terms of Appointment
- Appointment is for four (4) years in the first instance and may be renewed for a further two (2)-year term.

Qualification Required & Experience
- The candidate must be a very senior academic of professorial rank with considerable experience in teaching, research and university administration.
- He must hold a PhD with a demonstrable track record of scholarship and academic leadership.

- Deep appreciation of collegial governance and demonstration of strong ability to work effectively and collaboratively with University administration, faculty, students, staff and other constituent groups both within and outside the university.
- An understanding of emerging technologies and effective application of instructional technologies to enhance student learning.
- An understanding of contemporary issues in higher education.
- Must have held senior academic positions not below the rank of Dean.
