Job Summary:

The Head Chef is responsible for managing all aspects of the kitchen, including menu creation, food preparation, staff supervision, and inventory management. This role requires an experienced culinary professional with strong leadership skills, a passion for innovative cuisine, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation. The ideal candidate will be creative, detail-oriented, and capable of fostering a collaborative and efficient kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Staff Management
  • Oversee the daily operations of the kitchen, managing a team of chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants
  • Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to kitchen staff, fostering a positive, productive work environment
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure communication of goals, standards, and safety protocols
  • Menu Development & Quality Control
  • Design, create, and regularly update seasonal menus in line with current food trends and guest preferences
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of taste, quality, and presentation
  • Develop new recipes and techniques, continuously improving the restaurant’s offerings
  • **Inventory & Cost Management**
  • Oversee ordering and inventory to maintain consistent stock levels, minimize waste, and control food costs
  • Manage the kitchen budget effectively, ensuring cost control while maintaining food quality
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers to source high-quality, cost-effective ingredients
  • Health & Safety Compliance
  • Ensure the kitchen complies with health and safety regulations, maintaining cleanliness and organization
  • Oversee food safety procedures, including sanitation, food storage, and labeling
  • Conduct regular inspections and ensure that all staff adhere to hygiene standards
  • Guest Satisfaction & Feedback
  • Monitor guest satisfaction and adapt recipes or presentations to improve guest experience
  • Engage with front-of-house staff to gather feedback on customer preferences and dietary requirements
  • Be prepared to engage directly with guests for special requests or customized dining experiences

Qualifications

  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Chef, with at least 2 years in a leadership role as a Head Chef or Sous Chef
  • Proven experience in managing a kitchen team and developing menus in a high-quality dining establishment
  • Skills:
  • Strong culinary skills, including expertise in various cuisines and cooking techniques
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Knowledge of inventory management, food costing, and kitchen budget management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team management and customer interaction
  • Proficiency in kitchen safety protocols and food hygiene standards
  • Education:

A culinary degree or diploma from a recognized culinary institution is preferred, though experience will be strongly considered.
