Job Summary

The Sonographer is responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations utilizing a variety of sonographic techniques and equipment. The role involves working closely with patients, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality imaging results and exceptional patient care.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care:

  • Prepare and position patients for ultrasound examinations.
  • Explain the procedure to patients, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and provide compassionate care during the examination process.


Ultrasound Imaging:

  • Perform a wide range of diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecological, vascular, and small parts imaging.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring that images are captured with optimal clarity and accuracy.
  • Adjust equipment settings and patient positioning as necessary to obtain the best possible images.


Image Analysis & Reporting:

  • Analyze images and provide preliminary findings to the radiologist.
  • Ensure that accurate and complete documentation is maintained for each examination, including patient information, procedure details, and any observations made.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to discuss findings and recommendations.


Equipment Maintenance:

  • Perform routine checks on ultrasound equipment to ensure it is functioning properly.
  • Report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to the appropriate department.


Compliance & Safety:

  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including infection control and safety protocols.
  • Stay updated with current best practices in sonography and participate in continuing education and professional development.


Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other members of the radiology department and healthcare team.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior staff, students, and interns as needed.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field.


Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a clinical setting.


Skills:

  • Proficient in the operation of ultrasound equipment.
  • Strong understanding of human anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
