Job Description/Requirements
Our client, a reputable mining firm in Wassa is looking to recruit a Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer - FPM to join the team.
The Senior Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer will be the key person responsible for managing all electrical and instrumentation requirements, repairs, and maintenance activities across the crushing plant, milling and thickener circuits, Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) equipment, and the pastefill plant. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient and safe operation of all E&I systems associated with the crushing plant, milling and thickener circuit, Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) equipment, and the pastefill plant. The successful candidate will lead the maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and new installations of electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
Key Accountabilities or Activities Include key measures and outputs (how the performance of the incumbent is to be objectively measured using qualitative or quantitative data).
Electrical and Instrumentation Management:
• Lead the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and instrumentation across the crushing plant, milling and thickener circuit, CIL equipment, and pastefill plant.
• Ensure all electrical and instrumentation systems are compliant with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and instrumentation issues to minimize production interruptions.
• Optimize the performance of E&I systems to ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the crushing plant, milling and thickener circuits, CIL equipment, and pastefill plant.
• Monitor and analyze system performance data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
Project Management:
• Plan and execute electrical and instrumentation projects, including upgrades, expansions, and new installations, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to specification.
• Prepare detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource requirements, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure seamless integration of electrical and instrumentation systems with mechanical and process systems.
• Prepare detailed project reports, documentation, and technical drawings for internal and external stakeholders.
Budget and Resource Management:
• Develop and manage the electrical and instrumentation department budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effective solutions.
• Oversee the procurement of electrical and instrumentation equipment, spare parts, and consumables, ensuring timely availability and compliance with quality standards.
• Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving initiatives where possible.
• Implement strategies to optimize energy consumption and reduce operational costs within the electrical and instrumentation scope.
Continuous Improvement:
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing system performance, identifying areas for enhancement, and implementing innovative solutions.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in electrical and instrumentation engineering.
• Lead root cause analysis investigations for electrical and instrumentation failures, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Training, Development and Reporting:
• Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of electrical and instrumentation technicians, providing technical guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and facilitate professional development opportunities for the team.
• Collaborate with the HR department to recruit and retain top talent for the electrical and instrumentation team.
Safety and Compliance:
• Ensure all electrical and instrumentation activities comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
• Maintain and update all documentation related to electrical and instrumentation systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Working Experience and Education Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
• Proven track record in managing E&I systems in a process plant, including experience with crushing, milling, thickening, CIL, and pastefill systems.
• Experience in project management, including leading E&I projects from concept to completion.
• High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Additional certifications in instrumentation or control systems are preferred.
• Sectional Engineer Certification by MinCom
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
• Valid driver's license.
Skills:
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems used in mining and processing plants.
• Proficiency in using electrical design and simulation software.
• Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems, and other industrial automation technologies.
• Familiarity with industry standards and safety regulations for electrical and instrumentation systems.
• Proficiency in using engineering software and tools for design, simulation, and analysis.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent communication and training skills.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
Knowledge:
• In-depth understanding of electrical and instrumentation systems used in gold processing plants, milling circuits, CIL processes, and pastefill operations.
• Familiarity with industry regulations, standards, and best practices related to electrical and instrumentation engineering.
• Advanced troubleshooting and fault-finding skills for electrical and instrumentation systems.
• Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
