Job Summary

The Kitchen Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operations of the business, by maintaining a clean and organized kitchen facility, supporting procurement, and assisting the chef and cooks.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities/Requirement:

Metrics/Expected Outputs:

  • Completion of monthly checklist
  • Stockouts of cleaning product, consumables
  • Cleanliness of facility, accommodation


Responsibilities in the first month: 

Checklists and Processes

  • Cleaning checklists
  • Opening/Closing procedures
  • SOPs for cleaning, fumigation, pest management, fridge/freezer management, washing vegetables
  • Food Safety
  • Inventory management
  • Shopping
  • Receiving
  • Washing bay and reorganizing
  • Orientation on facility and equipment


Other Duties:

  • Basic cleaning
  • Laundry
  • Ironing
  • Organizing of facility and accommodation
  • Inventory management
  • Opening/Closing procedures
  • Prepping fruits and vegetables


Communications

  • Communicating with supervisor, founder, HR


In the second month, you will add the following: 

Checklists and Processes

  • Update cleaning checklists
  • Add any outstanding SOPs for key tasks


Additional Duties

  • Shopping
  • Light food prep
  • Managing food inventory of founder


Communications

  • Communicating with vendors for repairs


In the third month, you will also do the following:

  • Fumigation preparations and clean up
  • Food production planning + shopping list
  • Table set up and reset


Job Responsibilities:

  • Clean and maintain all areas: Ensure cleanliness of the dining rooms, restrooms, office spaces, and common areas.
  • Residence maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of the founder's residence, ensuring a comfortable and hygienic environment.
  • Routine inspections: Perform routine inspections and maintenance tasks, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Laundry and linen care: Launder and care for linens, uniforms, and other washable items as needed.
  • Manage cleaning supplies: Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, restocking as needed to avoid stockouts.
  • Health and safety compliance: Adhere to health and safety regulations to ensure a safe environment for all staff and guests.
  • Event support: Assist with setting up and breaking down event spaces, front of house support, and ensuring readiness and cleanliness.
  • Support kitchen operations: Provide additional assistance to kitchen and dining operations as needed, including light food preparation, organizing storage areas, and managing food inventory.


Required Qualifications:

  • SHS certificate or equivalent
  • Possess reading and writing skills
  • Proven experience in similar role
  • Able to use a variety of cleaning products and equipment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Able to complete tasks on time with minimal supervision
  • Be able to communicate and understand the predominant languages of Midunu—English (ability to communicate in Twi and other local languages a plus).
  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with managers and kitchen personnel
  • Driven and hard-working
  • Ability to take direction and multi-task
  • Must be comfortable following detailed SOPs, managing inventory, and using checklist
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must have or be cleared for food handler’s certificate
  • Ability to to repetitive tasks quickly and accurately
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time (8 hrs)


Desired Knowledge and Skills:

  • Previous safe food handling training is a plus.
  • An interest in building a career with Midunu is a plus.
  • Food Handler Certificate
  • Focused, positive attitude and desire to work with and help grow an artisanal chocolatier



The Cleaner is required to wear appropriate gear such as non-slip kitchen shoes, sleeved

shirts, pants, and head coverings. Masks and aprons will be provided. The Cleaner is

required to exercise good hygiene and pass a food safety medical screening. Fingernails

must be kept clean, and short enough not to break nitrile gloves. Frequent hand washing

and glove changing is critical for the health and safety of the team and our customers.


Job Type: Full-time

Pay:

  • 800-1000 GHS Based on experience
  • All statutory payments to GRA and SSNIT will be applied


Benefits:

  • Midunu will pay the annual NHIS card renewal
  • Leave: 15 days paid annual leave; 5 days paid sick days
  • Holidays: Ghana official holidays

Schedule:

  • 5 days a week, Monday – Friday
  • Working hours start from 6 am and includes a responsibility allowance
  • Seasonal and occasional events may result in work on weekends. Prior notice will be provided and overtime paid

  • The ideal candidate lives in Tesano, Abeka, Alajo, Lapaz, Achimota, North Kaneshie, Dzworulu, Abelemkpe or surrounding areas
