About This Role

This position leads the Health, Safety and Environment disciplines at a BU and site level implementing Enterprise strategies, programs and methodologies and advising BU leadership on performance, risk, and actions to address gaps. The role develops Regional/Country strategies responding to specific regulatory requirements and risks that impact the social license to operate.
The role is a member of the Business Unit Leadership Team; to embed health, safety and environment strategic objectives, standards and systems into the operations.

Your role will consist of Growth Strategy/Governance

  • Implement the Enterprise strategies and programs that address risk, compliance and performance improvement in Health, Safety and Environment in the operations.
  • Input into enterprise standards, systems, processes/tools, strategy, objectives and supporting performance requirements for Health Safety and Environment.
  • Develop strategies, programs and improvement plans for exposures unique to the asset to improve health, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Support operational leadership in providing subject matter expertise to provide solutions as appropriate.
  • Participate in compliance, assurance and governance activities and address risks arising from the reviews and reports.

Operations Excellence

  • Monitor Health, & Safety site risks, and performance to identify gaps and action plans, that address performance improvements.
  • Facilitate assurance at a BU level and participate in Enterprise-wide safety culture and FRM reviews.
  • Support monitoring of BU Health, Safety and Environmental risks, including site level implementation of critical controls and verifications.
  • Monitor data generated by FRM and provide insights and key trends.
  • Lead approach to zero hazard material spills, improved water management, monitoring and rehabilitation.
  • Drive improved transparency of environmental issues.
  • Ensure all site and BU team members understand their role in performance improvement across the Health, Safety, and Environment disciplines.
  • Benchmark against local industry peers and address performance gaps.
  • Support Technical teams in partnering with external bodies to support technology innovation.

People

  • Support and coach operational leaders to increase Health, Safety and Environmental knowledge and skills required in their roles.
  • Lead the site H&S and Environment teams, aligning effective team leader and team member processes and accountabilities.
  • Support BU and site leadership embed safety within the culture using systems, symbols, and behavioral framework to address gaps and improve.
  • Build capability knowledge and technical skills for the team and operational leadership.
  • Set performance expectations for direct team and provide feedback and coaching.

Commercial

  • Support development of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts: Develop, actively manage, and report against plans for costs, headcount and capital spend.
  • Manage resources (budget and personnel) to support safety and sustainability targets, KPIs and metrics.

Your knowledge, training and skills checklist
 Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in designing and implementing safety and sustainability, systems and tools across geographical locations and cultures.
  • Competent level of proficiency in project management.
  • Competent level of proficiency in analysis of data to monitor performance.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in applying safety and sustainability standards and improvement activities in a mining operations environment.

Knowledge

  • Bachelor qualifications Safety, Health and Environment, or other relevant degree.
  • Legislation and standards in different regulatory settings, permitting, monitoring and management of performance for safety, health, and environment.
  • Mining industry and operations.
  • Project management fundamentals.

Other Requirements

  • The preferred location is Miam, FL or Denver Corporate office, however qualified candidates interested in relocation to either Miami, FL or Denver, CO are also encouraged to apply.
  • Significant travel required, domestic and international.
  • Ability to manage across time zones and cultures.
  • Proficiency in English a must: Spanish, French, Dutch a plus.
