Job Summary
The Finance and Operations Manager will oversee and manage the financial and operational activities of the Bank, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, sound financial management, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role is key to supporting the bank’s strategic goals, fostering growth, and maintaining financial health while providing exceptional customer service to the rural community. The ideal candidate will have strong financial management skills, operational expertise, and an in-depth understanding of the banking sector, particularly in rural or regional areas.

Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Oversee financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial health of the bank.
- Conduct financial analysis to inform strategic decision-making and identify cost- saving opportunities.
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure sound financial practices.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of taxes, statutory returns, and regulatory reports.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and ensure the bank’s financial records comply with industry standards and regulations.
Operations Management
- Manage day-to-day banking operations, including branch activities, back-office functions, and Mobile Money accounts. Ensuring daily reconciliation of the Momo Accounts
- Oversee the efficiency of customer service operations, ensuring timely and accurate handling of transactions, account opening, loans, and other banking services.
- Implement operational policies and procedures to improve productivity and reduce operational risk.
- Improve, develop and manage internal control systems to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and mitigate risks.
- Coordinate with department heads to ensure smooth operations and adherence to internal and external compliance requirements.
- Supervise and train the operations team to improve skill sets, efficiency, and customer service standards.
Strategic Planning and Growth
- Assist in developing and executing the bank’s long-term strategic plan with a focus on financial sustainability and operational efficiency.
- Identify opportunities to enhance the bank’s market position in rural communities, increasing product offerings, services, and outreach.
- Monitor and assess market trends, competition, and customer needs to provide recommendations for new products and services
- Ensure that operations and financial processes align with the bank’s mission, vision, and values, with a focus on serving the local rural population.
Compliance and Risk Management
Work with the Risk and Compliance Manager to :
- Ensure compliance with relevant banking regulations, financial reporting requirements, and industry standards.
- Monitor and manage risk exposure, including credit risk, operational risk, and financial risk, ensuring risk mitigation strategies are in place.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, auditors, and industry associations to stay updated on changes in regulatory and legal frameworks
- Ensure the bank’s operations comply with environmental, health, and safety standards.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead, motivate, and manage the finance and operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, truthfulness, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Develop training programs for staff on financial and operational best practices, systems, and customer service standards.
- Foster a positive work environment and encourage teamwork and professional development.
- Collaborate with senior management on strategic projects, initiatives, and performance improvement efforts.
Supervisory Duties:
- Supervise the finance and operations team, providing direction and support to achieve departmental goals.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and develop training programs for team member
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree or professional certifications (e.g., ICAG, CPA, ACCA, CFA, CIMA etc…) is highly desirable.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or operations management within the banking or financial services industry, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Experience working in a rural or community banking environment is preferred.
- Proven track record of managing financial and operational teams, driving improvements, and achieving operational targets.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting skills.
- In-depth understanding of banking operations, financial management, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in accounting software, financial systems, and MS Excel.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Knowledge of risk management, internal controls, and operational efficiency best practices.
- High ethical standards and integrity.

Working Conditions
- Full-time position based at the bank’s headquarters.
- Occasional travel to branch locations and rural communities covering the bank’s operational areas as required.
- Flexible work hours may be necessary to meet deadlines or attend to urgent operational issues.
