Job Summary

The Cashier is responsible for managing cash transactions, ensuring accurate and secure handling of cash, credit, and other payment methods. This role involves providing excellent customer service, maintaining records of transactions, and assisting in inventory control as needed.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

Cash Handling

  • Process payments from customers efficiently and accurately using cash, credit cards, or mobile payments.
  • Issue receipts, refunds, or exchanges in accordance with company policies.
  • Count cash in the register at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure amounts are accurate and reconcile discrepancies, if any.
  • Safeguard cash, ensuring it is stored securely in registers and/or safes.


Customer Service

  • Greet and assist customers with inquiries in a polite and professional manner.
  • Provide information about products, services, or promotions to customers as needed.
  • Resolve customer complaints or escalate issues to the manager if required.


Transaction Recording

  • Accurately record all transactions in the Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Maintain proper records of sales, refunds, or discounts.
  • Generate and print daily transaction reports at the end of each shift.


Inventory Support

  • Assist in monitoring and managing stock levels to avoid shortages.
  • Report any discrepancies between sales records and inventory.
  • Support periodic inventory checks and audits.


Compliance and Policies

  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and standards for cash handling and customer service.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding customer information and transactions.
  • Follow safety procedures to prevent loss, theft, or fraud.


Qualifications and Skills

Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Diploma or certification in accounting, finance, or a related field (preferred).


Experience

  • Minimum of 2years experience in cash handling, retail, or customer service roles.
  • Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems and other relevant software.


Key Skills

  • Strong numerical and cash-handling skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in transaction recording.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) or equivalent tools.


Working Conditions

  • Standing for extended periods during shifts.
