Job Summary

Candidates must demonstrate their commitment and passion for improving education systems, and upholding equality and social change in Africa; the Research Lead should be a thought leader with published articles in the field of social development and education. AFC is particularly focused on research in the fields of basic education, early learning, gender equality, social inclusion, education in Emergencies and development on the continent. Candidates should be resourceful, adaptable, and well organized to lead teams and work effectively under pressure.

Job Description/Requirements

The Research Lead Responsibilities:

  • The Research Lead will work closely with the AFC Director and senior managers in all areas of the firms ongoing research and consulting work.
  • He /She will be responsible for the management and technical implementation of large-scale research and consulting projects across Africa.
  • Provide leadership in research analysis, leading teams, ensuring quality control, and developing writing plans for complex multi-disciplinary research.
  • Oversee research fellows and teams to produce high quality mixed method research evidence particularly in the education, gender equality and development arena.
  • Ensure the organization is publishing peer reviewed articles, working papers and policy briefs based on key research findings from AFCs current portfolio of projects running in West Africa


Research Lead Requirements:

  • Completed a Ph.D. or MPhil from a recognized University in the Social Sciences; preferably in education, economics, sociology, development studies, and other related fields with at least 3 to 5 years of research and/or consulting work experience
  • Should have a demonstrated interest in the field of education and social development along with experience in working in deprived areas of the continent.
  • Have demonstrated qualitative and quantitative research skills, project management, team management and evaluation skills; excellent presentation, analysis and writing skills.
