About Rainforest Builder

Rainforest Builder is Africa’s leading forest restoration company, on a mission to restore one million hectares of degraded land to natural tropical forest. Our team combines top global scientists and foresters into one integrated company specialized in large-scale tropical forest restoration. We have well-established partnerships with many of the world’s largest companies to support them meeting their decarbonisation goals.

Our operations today focus on the restoration of Africa’s most degraded rainforest landscape, the Upper Guinean Forest, where we have two existing projects and a growing high-quality pipeline for further expansion. Each project is large scale (100,000 hectares+) and long-term (71+ years), with additional measures taken to ensure permanence long after we are gone. We directly undertake all stages of each project’s lifecycle, including origination, carbon asset development, forestry operations, monitoring and analytics. Working closely with communities, our 2,000-strong team therefore provides our partners with complete assurance on the quality and transparency of our operations.

Your Role

We are seeking a dedicated, full-time Assistant GIS Officer with expertise in GIS technologies, servers, APIs, databases, programming languages, data analysis, and forestry operations. The Assistant GIS Officer will play an essential role in supporting the GIS Officer by managing spatial data, assisting in developing GIS solutions, and contributing to our forest restoration and carbon credit generation initiatives. This position requires a high level of commitment, as the GIS Assistant will collaborate closely with the GIS Officer to ensure data accuracy, process efficiency, and alignment with project goals.

Your Responsibilities

  1. GIS Data Management: Manage and maintain spatial databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and availability for analysis and decision-making.
  2. Programming and Automation: Develop scripts and tools using programming languages (e.g., Python, R) to automate GIS processes and workflows e.g. supervised classification.
  3. GIS Solutions Development: Develop and implement GIS solutions to support forest mapping, monitoring, and restoration planning.
  4. Server Management: Develop and maintain GIS servers and infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  5. API Integration: Integrate GIS data and services with other systems and platforms using APIs for seamless data exchange and analysis.
  6. Data Analysis: Perform spatial analysis on various raster and vector datasets, geoprocessing, and data modeling to derive insights and support decision-making.
  7. Documentation and Reporting: Document GIS processes, methodologies, and results. Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  8. Quality Control Oversight: Support quality control team with various maps and data points for easy monitoring.
