The CEO of Jobberman Ghana, Ghana’s no. 1 website has advised the young people to eschew an entitlement mentality and take responsibility and make something meaningful out of their lives.

Speaking at the TEDxAccra event which took place at the National Theatre in Accra, Mr. Otoki noted that not everyone will be great but those who will make a conscious decision to take their lives into their own hands have a better chance of becoming great.

“The truth is that no one owes you nothing. We must cease attributing your problems to others, our environment and exercise our personal responsibility; because we are responsible for everything. The decisions we make now will becomes a complete reflection of what we become tomorrow.”

Babajide Otoki was one of several speakers at this year’s TEDxAccra event, where he spoke on Taking Responsibility and entreated participants to begin to rethink their responsibilities in life.

“We have to take responsibility and we need to do this on three (3) fronts; responsibility to self, responsibility to others and responsibility to the environment.

Unsing the story of the three founders of Jobberman.com, Opeyemi Awoyemi, Ayodeji Adewunmi and Olalekan Olude, who took responsibility for their lives during a University strike and started Jobberman.com from a garage, Mr. Otoki noted that we can all emulate this story and create solutions and lasting impact for our societies.

“From a humble beginning, these young men have been able to create in the last seven (7) years,  the no.1 jobs board in sub-Saharan Africa, which caters over two (2) million job seekers, over 70,000 employers, and placed over 50,000 candidates in various roles. Like them, we must move past the entitlement mentality , create and give back to society”, he said.

TEDxAccra is an annual event, where thinkers and doers of our community gather to create and share ideas. It seeks to develop and leverage the TED experience at a community level, bringing together innovative thinkers to connect and discuss great ideas. At TEDxAccra, participants take part in a TED-like experience that will ultimately equip and inspire them into boundless possibilities.
